![]() Again, you can watch some of my gameplay video below for a better idea of how it plays. I’ll likely spend more time with the game, but my fingers needed a rest, especially after swinging that wrecking ball. So far I played through the first planet a few times and tried the second one - Mars - but failed to beat it. I think there are only three planets to unlock, but you can adjust the difficulty on them if you want more of a challenge - or to make them easier. And you can customize your ship to fit your play style. There are other weapons, too, like homing missiles, that are activated using a double-tap. I also just got a wrecking back that I can swing at enemies by actually spinning it around my ship with my finger. But I really like how you can control the spread of the bullets so they either focus on one tougher ship or spread out to cover many weaker ships. It’s been a lot of fun so far, and quite chaotic with how much debris goes flying. I’m playing on my iPad, so for now I left the controls set for three fingers. It’s designed for touch screens and has an incredible amount of customization in the settings. The Day We Fought Space! is a stylish shmup (shoot ’em up) in which you battle your way through waves of enemy ships using all sorts of weapons at your disposal. You can also watch my video below to see where I had trouble. It’s also free to try with a single IAP to unlock the full game, so I recommend checking it out for yourself. It’s still a great game and maybe others won’t have the same trouble I did. But as is, I’m not sure I’ll bother with that boss again. And I might have been fine if there was a smoother way to swap weapons. It’s odd, because until then the game was super easy, with enemies posing very little threat. I got so frustrated trying to switch back and forth between the weapons that I just let myself die and haven’t been back to the game since. It also spawns worms that crawl at you, so you want to be able to hit them with your sword. But the second boss wants you to hit it with bombs, so you need the watering can. I managed fine for the first 45 minutes since I was never in a position where I needed to switch quickly. ![]() ![]() But to switch them, you have to press the arrow next to the equipped item and then double-tap on the other other to switch. The sword is used to attack enemies directly. The watering can is used to grow bombs and blocks so you can then push them. ![]() For instance, you have a sword and you have a watering can. The only thing I don’t like about it is how you swap weapons. It’s got fruit and vegetable puns at every turn and it’s just adorable in every way. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a tongue-in-cheek action RPG akin to Zelda, in which you play as a turnip who needs to help the mayor complete tasks to make up for the taxes he didn’t pay. ![]()
